2011 Advanced 1 Bursary Results
The 2011 Advanced 1 Bursary Final was held on 11 December at Melbourne’s Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School with adjudicators Kirsty Martin, celebrated former Australian Ballet principal artist and Audrey Nicholls, well-known and respected teacher and former RAD Graded examiner. Class Teacher was Janne Blanch. Finalists were: Isobelle Dashwood (Qld – Alison Vallette); Emma Rumian (VIC – Jane Moore); Isabelle Bach (SA – Christine Underdown); Taylor Venter (WA –Samantha Leeman); Grace Robinson (NSW – Tanya Pearson); and Dann Wilkinson (NSW – Matthew Shilling / Elise Frawley). The Bursary winner was Isobelle Dashwood who would like to acknowledge all her teachers – Andie Dashwood, Alison Vallette, Benita Whalley, Jennifer Young and Caroline Vandersee. Isobelle is also a proud member of the Brisbane City Youth Ballet.
Professional Dance Teachers’ Registration Scheme
In September of 2012 we will announce the Professional Dance Teachers’ Registration Scheme. This Scheme will set internationally recognised standards for dance teachers, using clear and measurable criteria in four categories.

Genée International Ballet Competition 2011: results

Recognised as one of the ballet world’s most prestigious competitions and the flagship event of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), the Genée International Ballet Competition, held at the Artscape Opera House yesterday evening (Sunday 9 October), finished in top form as the Final drew to an exciting close.
Crowned with success, the overwhelming public response was evident, with sold out performances of the Semi Finals and the Final with the support once again proving the competition’s reputation as a tour de force in the worldwide ballet scene.
The winners list is as follows:
No gold medals were awarded.
Winners of female silver medals are: Mana Ogawa (Japan) and Si Jia Miao (China)
Winner of male silver medal: Jin Hao Zhang (China)
Winner of female bronze medal: Ashley Scott (South Africa)
Winner of male bronze medal: Mlindi Kulashe (South Africa)
The Audience Choice Award went to Jessica Brown (Australia)
As this year’s competition comes to a fulfilling close, bringing to light the young ballet stars on the rise, in a very successful return to London, the international ballet community looks forward to the next Genée International Ballet Competition in 2012 which Luke Rittner, Chief Executive of the RAD, announced would take place in Wellington in New Zealand, for the first time.
NEW Grades 1-3 Launch, Teachers’ Courses, and Resources
Ballet:The Next Step new Grades 1-3 syllabi Australian Launch and new Grades 1-3 Teachers’ Courses are now open. Pre-orders for the resources can also now be made.
The Launch will be held at Shore Grammar School, Blue Street, North Sydney on 16 January 2012. Courses for teachers in the new syllabi will be held following the Launch from 17-19 January and 22-24 January 2012 at selected venues in Sydney. Further courses will be held throughout the year in centres around Australia.

Membership Renewals Posted
Please note that on the 19th of August Membership renewal letters for the 2011/12 year, were posted to current members. If this letter has not been recieved, please use the 2012 Membership Application Form , or contact the membership department. The early bird discount for this financial year will remain open until the 19 of September we hope that members take advantage of the discount.
